Streimer Sheet Metal Works, Inc. (SSMWI) provides services to general contractors and architects and is a northwest leader in the commercial, industrial and hi-tech construction industry.
The company's services include shop fabrication facilities, architectural sheet metal, HVAC systems and maintenance, industrial air handling systems and hi-tech tool hookups. SSMWI is a family owned corporation with partial ownership provided to the employees through the ESOP retirement program. Other employee benefits include health, dental, eye care and life insurance.
SSMWI has 35 office employees and currently over 200 union field employees. Founded in 1946, the company office and fabrication facilities are located in Portland, Oregon, with projects in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California.
Job Description
The position of senior estimator is now available in the architectural sheet metal division of the company. This division supplies and installs sheet metal flashing, roofing and siding, various wall panel systems, louvers, sun shades and expansion joints. It is a rare opportunity that is not likely to become available again within the next two (2) decades. The position requires a high degree of honesty and integrity. It also requires an individual that is creative, aggressive, competitive, detail oriented and highly motivated to succeed.
Principal Duties
1) Review plans and specifications. Provide detailed cost estimates of assigned projects for bidding and budgeting proposals. 2) Provide detailed quantity surveys. 3) Perform analysis of documents to provide our customers with cost saving ideas and benefits. 4) Maintain and expand our historical labor production records. 5) Participate in meetings where an awarded project is transferred to a project manager. Make sure project scope, means, methods and assumptions are accurately transferred and understood. 6) Assist architects and general contractors with budgeting, material options and design details which align with the architect's vision and cost parameters.
Other Duties
1) Identify potential new services the company can offer to our clients. 2) Take part in promotion of SSMWI's safety polices. 3) Review estimates performed by the project managers as needed. 4) Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or architecture. Ten (10) years of documented, successful experience with a general contractor, sheet metal or related field. Hands on experience in the sheet metal industry and established local contacts with architects, general contractors and suppliers highly preferred. Have good written and verbal communication skills and is comfortable working in customer-facing situations. Solid computer skills, including MS Word and MS Excel are necessary.
